Riting Myth Book Cover     Dennis Slattery

Dennis Slattery has been teaching and studying mythology, depth and archetypal psychology for the last 35 years. During that time, in large measure through the writings of Joseph Campbell, Dennis has created and offered writing retreats in Santa Barbara, California; Seattle, Cleveland, Atlanta, Brattleboro, Vermont; Houston, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Akron, San Diego and Phoenix, and elsewhere. He has also led two well received have also "riting retreats" at Eranos Foundation in Ascona, Switzerland, and delivered talks on writing and myth at the Assisi Institute in Italy.

"My intention in compiling these riting meditations now is to more succinctly put into a structure for further use this important dimension of one's life, one that many people have no idea even exists: their mythic story. I hope in the process to bring back into the lives of any who read the book and/or participate in my riting retreats, a sense of the mythic as a way of knowing, and of story as a way of seeing and discerning the broad contours of one's personal myth."

Dennis Patrick Slattery, Ph.D., has been teaching for 42 years, the last 17 in the Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology and Depth Psychotherapy programs at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California. He is the author, co-author, or co-editor of 18 books and over 300 essays on scholarly and cultural topics as well as book and film reviews that have appeared in books, magazine, journals and newspapers.

Whenever men have looked for something solid on which to found their lives, they have chosen not the facts in which the world abounds, but the myths of an immemorial imagination.
