We are fortunate, here in New York, that we have learned and accomplished members to bring their fascinations into the group. This month one of our members, Mark Sirkin, will reveal some of the work that has captured his attention in recent years. This months meeting looks to be a stimulating and thought provoking evening, from an expert on the subject
In his own words about this months presentation: " Carl Jung equated the shadow with projective defenses and instinctive urges. In the realm of politics, especially in the 20th Century, we have seen the shadow emerge in its most destructive forms – world wars, the holocaust, and countless mass murders.
Using a large collection of political art, Mark Sirkin will illustrate how shadow or paranoid projections of leaders become self-fulfilling prophecies that have been used to justify some of the most heinous crimes in world history. The political stage provides a fertile field for the projections of dysfunctional leaders and displaced peoples. Building upon the theories of Freud and Jung, we will use iconic political art to illustrate how destructive groups arise and some ways to combat these pathological group tendencies."
