Is it even possible to be violent in those quiet moments in between thought? Isn't it the surrender of the ego that brings us to that higher state? The ego can hijack sage words, but I think that ones actions always show the source.

I can understand how Gaiman feels. The archetypes come out in the writing whether intentional or not, but Lucas went to Campbell and made a B movie into something more with the intentional use of myths.

is it a short story or novel? First establish what genre it is, Sci Fi, Thriller, ect. then look for magazines online or in the Writer's Market book. If its a novel, 60,000-or more words, look for a writers community in your area and try to get some feedback. IF they like it, try sending it to agent...

Perfect example Colin. It's hard to describe to someone that point when a person surrenders, lets go of the ego, and lets the universe take over. It can sound kooky, but that is what happens and writers use it in stories. congratulations on your journey.

I'm no religious scholar, but religion, in all its various forms, uses symbols to illustrate the process of individuation we all go through. Its no surprise that many of the stories in the bible are seen in other religions, the floods, birth and rebirth, ect, because they are potent symbols in our u...

First thing I learned about writing is that most stories, if not all, are a spiritual journey for the hero. The spiritual can encompass a broad spectrum, and can also be called "enlightenment." In writing they call it "character arc": the hero grows, going from selfish to selfless, from closed minde...

I think we should all strive to be compassionate loving people, but I think following your bliss is about listening to that quiet voice in your head and that passion that burns in your heart. Its about being yourself and doing what you were born to do rather than wasting your time doing what others ...

I only steal from the best

I'm always shocked when i come up with an idea I think is totally original and just after I get started on it, it shows up in the book store or in the theater--someone beat me to it. My dad used to say that ideas float around in the collective unconscious like fish in a tank, but the fish can be cau...

Good points. I agree reality tv is an abomination. and not reality, for that matter. I think the news is worse. When I think of my girlfriend, I think of twin peaks, her favorite, which is a gory weird fest, but fun none-the-less. You'd strike gold if you wrote a book on the power of Monster myths!

I don't think they would be putting violence in movies if it wasn't helping them sell movies. The funny part is, having had worked in film, Hollywood is mainly liberal and anti-gun. As an experiment I once tried to see how much time would pass between movie premieres wherein a marques did not featur...
