I appreciate the upgrade, but the pages are really hard for me to read now (the bright white background is not working for me :? ) Is it just my browser, or a step in the process, or is this the new look?

I too have some disagreements with Campbell's interpretations, especially where the line between psychology and metaphysics seems to me to become blurred. However I think I am in basic agreement with him on most major points. Long before encountering Campbell I noticed the same thing he said started...

Thanks for the reference David, I came across that thread early on but did not have the patience to read past the first few pages, 'heated debate' tends to leave me cold. Besides I've read most of Campbell's work for myself and was pretty sure there was no definitive answer to be had. In the lecture...

St. Symeon quote from Hero w/1000 Faces

The audio tapes of 'Hero' have a quote that for some reason I can't locate in the text. The passage is attributed to St. Symeon the Younger: I saw him in my house, among all those everyday things he appeared unexpectedly and became unutterably united and merged with me, and leapt over to me without ...

Thanks David, I guess the lectures I'm most interested are the ones I've downloaded so far, the Man and Myth series and now starting on The Myths and Masks of God.

BodhiBliss, your quotes are terrific. Can you identify the sources for the two that are not sourced?

Thanks

I knew there was a thread I was forgetting! Thanks for bringing it back to my attention guys. What these posts bring to mind mostly is Jung's definition of inferior thinking as opinion. While the transcendent is just that, beyong words or definitions, all the points in this thread (human sexual beha...

Thanks Martin! I think it's fascinating to be able to place Campbell's work in time and space, and in the arc of his career. Does the reference to two separate dates for The Neccessity of Rites mean that the dowmload is composed of two separate recordings? As for the transcripts, I don't want to inf...

but i can also identify with consciousness qua Consciousness, the Consciousness which flows through me, out of which this "I-drop" emerges, back into which this I-drop dissolves, and which animates and informs my individual consciousness while "I" am here. This is exactly the point that I come up a...

I was only able to locate their general customer information email address from their website, and have not heard back form them. I w...

I wonder if eventually you don't have to accept the metaphor as real in some sense to get the full benefit of it. I mean, to engage all those aspects of your Self which are meant to be energized and directed by the symbol maybe you have to drop the focus from the 'as if' and really give yourself to ...
