JR, A fascinating question. I think that the two things which most led to our rejection of mormonism was the absolute literal interpretation of anything which was contained in "scripture". Probably the other thing is that Mormonism is in many ways a cultural ambassador for American culture. There we...

Campbell frequently referred to one of the grail quests in which the questers started where the forest was darkest and there was no path. I have seen references that it came out of the Quest of the Sangral. Can anyone point me to this quest document? David: A book idea. A collection of some of the Q...

oneworld: ???? Don't understand your post. Martin: I think that there is an urgent need to try to understand how cognitive proceses are affected by the mythology with which we grow up, or in my case, embrace in later life. I have garnered a few examples of how group cognition operates in stressful s...

Okay Martin and Oneworld, thanks for your comments. I guess I do need to concretize my thinking. In answer to your comments oneworld, no I am not a psychologist (though I have been told that I would make a good one). I am actually an IT systems design engineer who came into psychology and human fact...

oneworld: Thanks for your comments. As an opening to my reply let me start by saying that I do not have any argument with the fact that myth has a universal language. However as Homo Sapien Sapien has spread across the world, that language has been used to derive a vast range of human responses to t...

Clemsy, a good example at a societal level of what I am trying to convey. Don't sideline yourself, as I know I am dry (at least until my second beer). JR: A very erudite analysis  I hadn't thought about the evolutionary nature of divergent opinion. You have given me some new thoughts to pursue...

Okay, I have waded through the entirety of this thread. I’d make the observation that it is a fascinating thread of discussion. I actually ended up extracting the entire thread out to a text document to place it with my thesis materials. Now I’d like to throw in my observations and I will apologise ...

Sorry if the spelling is wrong, but in several of Joseph Cambells books etc he refers to a Yidam that I think was called Pancha Raksa. It is the Yidam for all those who find their own learning through books and scripture. Joseph Campbell claimed it for his own Yidam. I have been trying to find a cop...

Can someone provide a link to the mythology vs psychology thread David refers to in his latest post on this thread. I have "trolled" looking for it and have not seen it (which probably just means I am blind..).

Martin I agree that it does not take facing death to free up the creative mind, but it certainly seems to unencumber the mind from being concerned with the fight for life, and instead, in embracing one's mortality. One seems to unload much baggage. Interestingly, the reflection in the mirror of the ...

Thanks for the info JR. If I can track a copy of a Pancha Raksa image then I would like to get a copy done. As for my wife's mandela, it is fascinating to watch it's evolution. She is thinking through the final quadrant of the image at the moment, but her thinking has evolved as much as has our thin...

I am currently in the early stages of a PhD looking at group cognition in the development of shared Situational Awareness. After spending some time reading the posts here I thought I would put a question and see what work has been done and what thoughts people have on the issue. At the core of my th...
