Hello Ercan,

I think the art of calligraphy is suffering the same fate as music and theater, a victim of our technological prowess.

It’s nice to have recorded sound and film. But a performance used to be a special treasure, an event, the player fulfilling a social need and connecting people with their song and voice. We still have that. But because we are constantly bombarded with recorded acting and music we become a zombie-like audience, only half-seduced by a performance.

Calligraphy is becoming more and more a lost art due to email and a standardized script.
Asian poetry has always known the value of calligraphy – and Islam

From the Holy Quran, Al-Qalam (The Pen) 68-1

I found three translations of this passage:

• “CONSIDER the pen, and all that they write [therewith]!”
• "I call to witness the Pen and what it writes.”
• “NuN, the pen, and what they (the people) write.”

Nermin,
I started this thread nearly one year ago
with a very innocent gif image about
googling. Then, Noman, a senior member
of JCF community posted that image.
I assumed that maybe he's living in a place
that .....
Anyway, now I think it's good idea to
delete my own posts.

I read this thread earlier this morning, guys, before the deletions were made, and personally I don't understand what the concern is. Is the assertion that the above image and post is controversial in some way? If so, I don't see it, and it never occurred to me that a particular religious view was being put out there if that's the concern. As for noman's use of the term "Holy Koran," that's how Muslims refer to their holy book, is it not? It's no different than Christians using the term "Holy Bible."

I also viewed this thread earlier. I'm the mod and I haven't any idea why anything was deleted.

Nermin, Cindy's point re: 'holy' is spot on.

Well, Nermin, I'm not one to criticize any religion or one's personal beliefs, but I'll ask you this: What religion doesn't have elements of both tolerance and intolerance?

There was no issue with anything posted in this thread.
they're not tolerant about their script
I do have a problem with the generalized 'they.' There are over 18,000 registered associates here and some of them are very likely Arab. if I were one I would find your generalization offensive.

Ercan, the deletions were unnecessary.
