Hello everybody!

Here are some pictures of yours truly dressed up as a Velichappadu, the traditional shaman and oracle of the Goddess in Kerala temples.

Nandu,

"Apu" of The Simpsons' Kwik-E-Mart will never look the same way to me again.

very kewl.

It's also nice to have a face to go with the mind.

School’s Shake-Up Is Embraced by the President

If the best of us aren't safe, why should any of us become teachers? I was at work until six o'clock on Friday. Yesterday, Saturday, I graded essays for three hours. I'll do the same today. I worked a six day week this week. I do that often. I research and plan for much of the summer. I am not compensated for that. I also work in a district with extreme social problems. Too many of our students don't do well. The President's endorsement of the Central Falls, RI nuclear option is not only profoundly wrong for public schools in general... it threatens my family. Right now, smart people should avoid the profession. Indeed, I would question the intelligence of anyone entering the profession during what is the darkest period of my 26 year career. The Democratic Party has lost my membership and the President has lost my vote. I do not expect any action significant enough to change that.

Teachers should, indeed, be held accountable. But to hold no one else accountable, and this is my perception of the President's ill-advised education policy, is simply politically expedient.

If this were France, every teacher in the country would stay home tomorrow. I would fully support such an action.

Exasperatingly,
Clemsy
