Thank you for the very kind compliment, though I would say I usually weigh in with a loud blast or thud, hardly subtle at all. <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> I hope you will forgive my ignorance but I doubt I am learned enough to encapsulate vajrayana on my own but can pass on a few ideas gleaned from teachings and readings as understood by me. As the old saying goes, "Any mistakes are my own, any praise belongs to the teacher."

In terms of Campbell's teachings, he has given what I consider a wonderful explanation of the aims of the Buddhist yogas which I believe is contained in Transformations of the Myths Through Time, I believe in his lectures on the Bardo Thodrol but I don't have those materials here with me to check if I'm remembering accurately. I would add though that the same illumination of ideas is present and apparent in many of Campbell's elucidations of other subjects as well. As Campbell teaches, one of the aims of the yogas is to retain the energy that arises in anger, other afflictive emotions, or attachments indicative of a dualistic perception, yet strip away the negativity or intention to harm, and use the energy solely for cultivating love and compassion as a spontaneous state.

Other teachers describe the tantric symbology, particularly the symbology of highest yoga tantra, as speaking directly to the unconscious, if one uses psychological terms to divide and identify awareness. The aim of communicating directly with the unconscious is to clear any obscurations in motivations, intentions, and actions. Hence the poetics and symbology, particularly in practices with wrathful aspects of enlightened beings, are what could be considered gory, revolting, or shocking to conscious awareness.

Oh dear, oh dear... I'm so embarassed.
Shouldn't a scholar at least be a doctor of philosophy first? I'm not quite sure how these things are being perceived over there, but here in Australia a mere student of philosophy who is hesitant even to day-dream about becoming a doctor of philosophy one day is not held in such high regard as a scholar. However, I thank you dear Vissi for bolstering my self-esteem, though I'm not sure I deserve it.

Yes it is certainly refreshing, it makes one realize that we do not need 'Masters'.
Yes I mean Masters to direct our movements through the physical SPACE external to us (think slaves) or a Master's Degree signifying an indoctrination of thought...a certain type of 'thinking' has been demonstrated and this person therefore is allowed to rise up through the ranks. Ravenheart much of what you describe and how many people seem to interpret myth and scripture is again based on a certain egocentricity, regardless of the source. And I observe that we are as diverse as snowflakes, each and every one of us…so how do we go about uniting 6.5 billion people each with their own unique perspective? A collective hodge podge of experience. Each of us is no longer a purebred, each a mongrel.
Where do you start?

I suggest we take that myth and scripture and apply it to the planet earth.
Here was the turning point I contend. Mankind placing himself above nature. We must start looking at the scripture as primarily a manual for the macrocosm. A healthy earth would reflect a healthy collective consciousness.
This is exactly the philosophy that Socrates espoused. He believed you could tell the health of the microcosmic universe which you could not see or observe…that which what resided in the hearts and minds of men by observing how their thoughts and feelings manifested themselves in the collective external macro reality.

In other words a corrupt state or government would be a direct indictment of the corruption that existed in the hearts and minds of those within that collective state.

The elemental Earth our Mother Nature is the common bond, the common demoninator, that we all do battle against individually or collectively, and each of us is programmed to return to the elemental soup. It is a battle we will never win and from which we cannot escape.
So how do we treat one another as human beings as we watch the world chaotically unravel, the resources being depleted at an increasingly alarming rate?

That is the test.

And if we remember Energy = God, the rules of the game become simplified and you have a level playing field. A new perspective, new light is shed on free will.

So please explain to me why there is little discussion of my green message?

All messengers deliver a humble message of share with and serve your fellow man and they also preach to have respect and reverence for all life within the Creation. We are stewards of the Earth. If Gaia dies or suffers so do we. We are NOT above nature. That was the wrong turn we took 3500 years ago.

The term 'Left-Hand Path' has become an umbrella term of self-designation used by certain contemporary ritual magicians and is usually taken to incorporate practitioners of Thelemic magick (beginning with Aleister Crowley), Tantrik magick, and Chaos Magick (inspired by both Crowley and the magickal techniques devised by the occult artist Austin O. I imagine myself on a journey.

I come to the proverbial fork in the road.
The sign says going up, turn left, going down turn right.

Prior to my hike I noticed that the trail was marked as the ‘Fibonacci Numbers’, it was located in the Phi Golden Section and it promised to lead the seeker of the truth to the Golden String Ring. So join me on my journey.

I decided first to take the left hand path as suggested by most gurus and sages and I soon found myself on a spiraling staircase comprised of square stepping stones. Each and every stone was in the shape of a square.
The first stone in the shape of a square could be shown to have been created using a basic ‘four-fold’ creation process.

The next stepping-stone on the path was a duplicate of the first, and the next one was the width of the first two stones combined, and this pattern repeated itself as far as the eye could see. But as I ascended each stone my view of the horizon was expanded. Soon I found myself at such a level that I became awestruck at the incomprehensible beauty of the creation. I paused for what seemed an eternity. I pondered the significance of the square used for each stepping-stone. Geometry was a clue as were numbers and dimensions.
A square represents the four-fold process.
The four fold process being a progression through the first 4 dimensions.

1D > 2D > 3D > 4Dimensions

I may add 3D is a triangle, known as the first complete shape.
2D can be a straight or wavy line and 1D is a point.
The 1st and 2nd Dimensions also represent how light travels, as either a wave or particle/point.

So as I mentioned before there were two paths that lie before me. And what became apparent to me was that both paths were spiraling. Left apparently went up and had I turned Right, I would have found myself spiraling downward using the same sequence of square stepping-stones.
The Left Hand Path was marked in Sky Blue and the Right Hand Path was a Fiery Red.

And I soon realized that this spiraling movement was seen at the many levels of creation from the unknowable Planck Era…right through the Quantum Field and into Relativity.
Patterns that extended from the inner boundaries of the microcosmic universe to the outer boundaries of the macrocosmic universe.
We have bosons and fermions with integer and half integer spins, the earth rotates, we spiral around the Sun … galaxies spiral either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

We have a pre-historic symbol here on Earth representing all of the above and it is a symbol that is worth at least one thousand words.

And I believe the Swastika is that symbol.
A Swastika fits very nicely into a square and if you place its mirror image (left hand/right hand), the two combined will complete the square.
So here I find myself in the Golden Section which is a waveform created by what is known as the golden section or Phi or sometimes called the Divine Proportion.

And the number Phi, which is a ratio apparently, also seeks equilibrium. Not unlike the thermodynamic equilibrium the Universe seeks. The Fibonacci Numbers or the Path I am on would keep intersecting with the Phi number identified as 1.618….

What I noticed on my journey was the further I progressed on my spiraling left hand path The Fibonacci Numbers within the Golden Section I became keenly aware of a distinct pattern, the ratio of successive Fibonacci numbers gets closer and closer to Phi.
It indicated to me that the higher I ascended on the Left Hand Path the closer I would be to synchronizing my journey with that of the Divine Proportion.

Soon the path became more distinct and the pattern was more identifiable.
The Golden String revealed itself as an infinitely long sequence or code

1 0 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 0 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 0 1…

The Golden String apparently was in the shape of a spiraling Ring forever spiraling, certainly no end in sight; time was no longer a dimension.
Time the one thing we could never buy in a material world no longer existed. We apparently have arrived.
Thermodynamic equilibrium.

The left hand path is when one psycho-dynamically cracks out of the status quo of thinking and feeling, and ventures with her attention into new areas of personal reality. This happens in a functional, here-and-now environment of awareness (largely in a being's Inner World), that happens as a living actuality, and it is only referred to in articles, books and on forums.

It's truly an area of an individual exploration of her own Inner World, beyond the boundaries set by the ego-based characters that she normally supports, and beyond the limitations suggested by society, and even perhaps by respected spiritual teachers, gurus and guides. This is an area that can be repeatedly accessed when one identifies with the Hero, who is a composite of all the other characters of personality that one has every played, but the Hero is not attached to any of them. The Hero has transcended them all.

The Hero is an expression that is alive, awake, and a fragment of All That Is, and has available to her, all the characters and mind-styles that she's ever played. She has the inner skills and abilities of a free spiritual being. She is constantly changing and so is the Universe (inside & out), and she spontaneously morphs to communicate with the Universe ... just as the Universe does as it relates to her living presence.

The characters who inhabit the right hand path say: "You fool! Come back! You are visiting worlds of make-believe. They are not real. Come back and live with us, we know what is true and good for you." But the Hero knows that these characters are only defining the limitations of their own reality, as she has direct, first-hand experiences of realms of thinking, feeling, dreaming and paths of inspiration that are boundless and infinite. And, she has found that the primary elements holding her back were the beliefs that she previously held, and her attraction to what others were telling her about their personal realities ... others in her immediate environment ... and others in articles, books and on forums.

She discovered, underneath and behind all the characters and beliefs ... she discovered her true nature as a spiritual being who is free and vast ... who can explore new worlds unknown to others and to the earlier identities that she had thought herself to be.

She lives with one foot in an ever-evolving Creation, and one foot in emptiness, and she adores losing her identity and being absorbed into the perfect Nothingness of the universe. She easily and instantly is able to enter the space that is both inside the atom and between the stars. Time does not exist and she instinctively returns to a principle existence beyond creation. And then, on Its own, in Its own time -- seemingly propelled by a deeper force -- she becomes re-assembled into a new being. As her eyes flutter open, she's always amazed and deeply moved by the self-orchestrating ability of her true nature. Refreshed and starting once again from a Beginners Mind, she looks out across a world that seems familiar, but that she knows is as unique and mystical, as she is.

EVERYTHING has a left hand path....it's a choice that is made by the individual....it's done with money...it's done with magic and it's done with life....it's a universal law to choose either one way or the other....the agressive or recessive...you're either on a black square or on a white square on the checkerboard of life....so you see...The Goldan Dawn isn't just left hand...it's both...or neither depending on how you look at it....the individual makes it so.

The silver lining in between black and white....left and right...is like a catch 22 whereas you're not either and you're both at the same time.

The most recent cyber-newsletter has introduced me to the existence of this thread.
I've followed through all the previous discussions and quotes from the Eastern perspective on this topic of right v. left, and am familiar with Joseph Campbell's explanations and deductions on human growth and spirituality, coming as he was, late, from the Hindu perspective, after discovering for himself the limits of his Catholic teaching as far as he went.
However, I do believe that the Christian stream of philosophical theology can enter this discussion in a valid (to me) way.
I should prefer the Kataphatic v. the Apophatic ways, as lived and written by John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, for instance, respectively. And for other travellers along this narrow way since.
The Kataphatic is the way of unknowing, the way of darkness. John of the Cross was led to this spirituality by the cruelty and torture of his very brothers in his Carmelite monastery.
Teresa , did not experience these times of actual torture and ultimate diminishment, but did have her monastic sisters to confront with the ease of their living that had developed over the years. She too, wished to return to the roots of the Carmelite charism from the desert , and re-create the way of a discipline without distractions from secular society, while embracing her personality and need for outside contact in tandem.
Hers was the way of "Knowing", of "Light".
She speaks to her God as friend to friend in challenging discourse.
John's way was the way of dark faith in the One who kept One's promises, clinging to an unseen , unknowable God, with whom John came to meet in the degrading silence of his dungeon.
The extent of love of these so-different people came to fruition in their mutuality and in their friendship.
Their love of Who-ever, went far beyond all the symbolism I have read over and over , of art works from the Eastern religions, and from art works and infantile beliefs from fundamentalists of every colour.
Their God, was not to be "known" even in symbols, although Teresa produced symbol after symbol in her works.
The Being beyond, in Eastern spirituality , was for them and for Christians striving unique paths since, unknowable by anything more tangible than Love.
We can follow all the Eastern paths that give us answers to our each particular question.
But, ultimately, we come up against the Cause of it all, never seen , never known, never symbolised.
Lesser gods may reveal facets of the Unknown to those who search, but ultimately, even for Christians, we are left with more questions than answers.
And so it must be.
If it were not, this Entity would not be our living, ever creating , God.

Dear Denise, aka: dmc,

Please forgive another question: do you think and feel that YOU are already intimately connected to "That which is the Cause of it all, never seen, never known, never symbolized"? Do you feel connected and interwoven into IT through love?

Can you easily leave both the left and right hand paths behind, leave all the symbols, the stories, the marvelous books and characters behind, and find that you are already one with The Creator?

And, can you imagine that from the perspective that is beyond all symbols and beliefs -- when You have lost your identity in the Creator -- that You welcome everything to exist? ... You welcome the right and left hand paths to be. You also welcome beings to go away from your True self ... and you also invite them to follow paths that lead them to return to their original, natural, intimate connection to God (beyond the symbols and the so-called lesser Gods)?

Now, you briefly re-told stories about John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila ... two different expressions that ended up at the same destination beyond the symbols. For you: do all the characters that you, yourself, can play or test-drive in your life ... do all the characters lead back to God? ... or is it only a few special mind-styles and unique currents of love that follow paths that lead you to transcend all symbols and return to the God beyond Gods?

Yes.
There is only one Source and one Home for and from the quest. And IT is the same for us all, no matter what path we tread or is chosen by us or for us.
We and all Creation long and dance each moment of our time here, for this ultimate return . It is not to be feared- it is an ever expansion of Love Absolute.
But every symbol along the way is a distinct stepping stone and is therefore to be revered.
The same with every unselfish act we do for others or for any part of Creation. We also must learn to be truly loving and unselfish of our own being.
This is often the hardest block because dogma and manmade rules will hold us back from being truly who we are and have been made to become. Love has been implanted in all and we are It.
I cannot really advise you about your path because whatever it is, you will be safe as you cling to the Truth that you are indeed part of the Whole who is ever calling you to completion and to Home.
But, all paths are the same path. It's the dance that differs.

Just a quick sub-comment regarding post waaay up above.

I often relate to the "Son" of God as our own Sun. When he sins, the Sun gets stronger bringing us closer to Hades and the fires of Hell, when he is purifying himself, it cools down and often rains. I view the rain as the tears of Gaia, being the mother of the Son, often also referred to as the Virgin Mary, the mother of the Son whom walketh the earth. Her tears indicate that she wishes for her son to take part in the sinful nature on earth, yet her tears also are the force for sustaining life on the planet. Too much sin, eventually leads to a desert which is detrimental to the health of mankind, yet good for population control in order to retain the correct balance of life and death of man and nature respectively - a very intricate and well balanced system of a very high order.

Guess what?

I find myself in the middle of a Dan Brown novel.

I found a symbol in the Monestario Santa Catalina, in the city of Arequipia. This monestary was reopened in 1970 after being closed for nearly 400 years.

This symbol I can link directly to the Swastika...especially the version Hitler adopted.

And then the next day another messenger appeared.
Was it Lilith or Lydia, I do not recall.
She offered me another gem, pardon me while I vibrate.

The Chakana...The Andean Cross...The Square Cross

Can someone please explain to me how I can post a jpeg pic.

The amazing thing about the Chakana, and yes it is very similar to the Chakras, is that it shares with the Cross that I found in the Convent and the Nazi version of the Swastika the same color configurations.
