How do we navigate these forums?
Scroll to the top of the page and click on Home. This will take you to the page with each forum’s descriptions (the forum are listed on that page in the same order as the menu in the lefthand column). This also shows you who created the last post in each forum, and when (that means who started the conversation, not who wrote the most recent reply: Mortimer may have created a post two days ago, but if you go to that conversation and click on Mortimer’s post, you could find a string of more recent replies).
Every forum has the FAQ and the Forum Guidelines pinned to the top of the list of topics. If you haven’t read the guidelines, please do so. (Looks like you’ve found the FAQ).
Below those are the list of topics people have posted so far in that forum. Click on one to read that post and any replies. Feel free to add a reply if you have something to share, or just enjoy following the conversation.
If there’s anything you want to introduce – a question, an observation, anything related to Campbell, myth, or one of his many related interests – create a topic in the forum you feel comes closest to including the subject you want to discuss. Most forums includes in their description a link to a corresponding part of the website. For example, The Work of Joseph Campbell description has a link to all his published works: you can of course focus on a specific book or lecture, but also anything related to the ideas arising out of his work.
When you complete your thought, whether short or long, check the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” box (conversations unfold at a leisurely pace: someone might need a few days to let what you write simmer in the back of their brain – this is how you find out someone has replied), and then click Submit.
How do I add an avatar to my posts?
Click on the Profile link under your user name in the upper left corner above the forum menu. Then click Edit and follow the prompts to upload an image file from your computer.
How will I know if someone comments on my post?
Before you click the Submit button, check the box at the bottom of your post that reads, “Notify me of follow-up replies via email.”
How do I upload an image from my phone or device into a post?
This forum does not support that function. You may post an image that lives on the Internet with its URL (if used with permission, or in the public domain). Click on the picture icon (all the way on right in the formatting bar for your post) and paste the URL into the field provided.
How do I add a link?
Highlight the relevant text in your post, then click on the link icon in your formatting bar above your post (immediately to the left of the picture icon), and paste the URL into the field provided. Then click on the gear icon to right of that field, and check the box that says “Open link in a new tab” (so readers can see your link without having to navigate back to the forums) and then click the green “Add Link” button.
What if I want to do something beyond the options provided – make a word red, or resize an image?
You can add BBCodes to format your message. BBCode uses tags to format something specific contained within the tag (tags are indicated by brackets surrounding a keyword, which is transformed into HTML before being delivered to a web browser).
Here are links to BBCode options beyond the options available on your post (but please do pay attention to detail when doing this):
How do I send a Private Message to another forum member?
Click on the name of the person you want to contact (under their avatar in a any of their posts). This link will take you to that member’s profile page. Then click on “Send a Message,” and compose.
How do I get help with a technological issue?
Visit the Contact the Foundation page, select Technical Support, and fill out the contact form.
