No matter what form the separation takes, however, similar motifs repeat: the call to adventure, the refusal of the call, supernatural aid, the crossing of the first threshold, and the belly of the whale. Each of these stages offers its own lessons and wisdom.

Setting Out on the Journey: A Community Webinar
April 18, 2026
10:00 am Pacific time
Heroic journeys begin with a departure or separation, whether literal or metaphorical. Day separates from night, travelers separate from their homes, astronauts separate from the earth. No matter what form the separation takes, however, similar motifs repeat: the call to adventure, the refusal of the call, supernatural aid, the crossing of the first threshold, and the belly of the whale. Each of these stages offers its own lessons and wisdom.
Join us for a free community webinar on April 18, 2026 at 10:00 am Pacific time to reflect on the separation stage of the hero’s journey especially as it appears in music. You’ll also learn about the four values that guide our exploration of the power of myth in music: the humility of our humanity, the courage of our convictions, the hope we hear in harmony, and the daring to brave the adventure. As always, we will also share updates and information about upcoming offerings from JCF.
